One month left – start your submission
There’s one month remaining in the Hsuehshan Tunnel Transformer hackathon! Submissions are due November 19 before 5pm ET.
Starting a submission is a good way to make sure that your solution meets the requirements. There’s nothing worse than getting to the deadline, only to realize that you’re missing a key component. Remember: once you submit a project, you can keep editing it as needed at any time prior to the submission deadline.
Prepare your video
Don’t forget, your submission must include a video showing your app. Too often, participants leave this video to the last minute…

Making a great submission video
We know you’re focused on your tunnel-busting app right now, but don't forget about your submission video. It's often the first (and sometimes only) thing that judges and voters review.
A good video tells the story behind your submission, providing a clear and concise explanation of what your app is and does. Here are some tips and a list of screencasting tools:
- Establish your elevator pitch. In the first few seconds of your video, explain why your app is awesome. You can get into the details of how it works later on in the video, but treat the…

Weather & traffic data now available in JSON
Just a brief update to let you know that the weather and traffic data are now available in JSON. Although figuring out the insights is still up to you, this should make it easier to incorporate the data into your tunnel-transforming apps.
To recap, the data provides daily information (April - June 2015) broadcast from weather and traffic stations near the Hsuehshan Tunnel and along Highway 5 in Taipei. We hope it will help you explore factors such as when traffic is likely to be heaviest and how weather patterns influence tunnel gridlock.
And in case you missed our earlier update, we've also mapped out…

Unpacking the traffic & weather data; plus, more developer tools
Hi, tunnel transformers!
We realize that we’ve thrown a lot of data at you, so we came up with some easy ways to approach and start integrating the weather & traffic data into your Taipei tunnel traffic solutions. (Using this data isn’t a requirement — but we definitely think it can give you a head start in understanding the problem and designing your app.)
- To help you better visualize the scale and scope of the data, we've mapped all of the vehicle detector locations along Highway 5.
- And here’s a map of all the meteorological stations.
Both the weather…
